KIMONO DRESSING BOOK: Obi Musubi

Opening the borders about the mysteries and complexities of kimono dressing.
WHY?

Kimono, in English, means “something to wear” but the garment itself is associated with Japan, elegant and class. It can convey the wearers age, marital status and social status just a mere glance. It is a magnificent garment that has entice people worldwide with its complexity and visual appeal.

Kimono ARTISTRY involves the handiwork of many craftspeople. To weave a single bolt of kimono fabric takes a tremendous amount of time. Sometimes it progresses at a rate of just 1/3 inches per day. Kimono is produced in many styles, and incorporates various techniques to produce the cloth.

Simply, we love kimono.

With the birth of kimono organizations like Kimono de Jack, Immortal Geisha, etc., kimono fashion is becoming trendier in and outside of Japan. Kimono books and Obi musubi books have traditionally been written in Japanese making it harder for non-Japanese readers to get their desired results.

In honor of KimonoNoHI (an annual event created by METI, which is the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry in Japan to revive Kimono industries), KIMONO SK has decided to accept the challenge of produce a kimono book in both in Japanese and in English. Our objective is to allow everyone to wear kimono comfortably, elegantly, and effortlessly in time-honored tradition with a modern twist. Sueko will incorporate the techniques and skills of kimono dressing she has learned during her 28 years as a kimono expert.
